What is Dark Site Licensing?

Dark site licensing refers to licensing configurations designed for deployment in environments that are permanently or semi-permanently disconnected from the public internet, sometimes called 'dark sites.' These environments, common in defense, energy, and classified government settings, cannot use cloud-based license validation at any point in the software lifecycle. Dark site licensing typically relies on pre-provisioned license files, hardware security tokens, or locally hosted license servers that are configured before the site goes offline and operate independently for the duration of the license term.
