What is Air-Gapped Software Licensing?
Air-gapped software licensing refers to licensing mechanisms designed for environments that have no internet connectivity, including classified government networks, critical infrastructure control systems, and secure military facilities. Because these environments cannot reach cloud-based license validation servers, license enforcement must rely on offline methods such as code-exchange activation (where a request code is generated on the isolated machine and a corresponding response code is provided out-of-band), local license files, or hardware dongles. Air-gapped licensing is distinct from offline activation, which may still use file exchange across a network boundary.
